Phonetic Study: The Use of Diction in Short Story Essays of Class XI Students of SMA Negeri 10 Depok

The aim of the research was to find out diction used by students in composing short stories. method is descriptive qualitative method. data source for this stories written class XI at SMA Negeri 10 Depok 2021/2022 academic year. results study obtained requirements accuracy use using percentage technique. Based on conducted researcher, 81 were from 42 students' story essays. Of types analyzed, inaccurate as follows: general and special words 11.11%, connotative denotative 27.16%, almost synonymous 35.81%, idioms 4.93%, continuity word choice 11.11 %, senses 9.87%.
